Rosie O'Donnell Leaving "The View"
I was a fan of "The View" for many years. I watched it as often as I could during its 10-year-run. However, I stopped watching it shortly after Rosie O'Donnell joined the show because I never thought she would be a good fit for the show. Even though I am a Christian, my opinion has little to do with the comments she has made on the show about Christians in the past year. Rosie's personality is just too overwhelming to mesh with an ensemble. The times that she was a guest host were very uncomfortable to watch because she would always talk over her co-hosts and ruffle the guests' feathers.
Yes, the ratings for "The View" have gone up since she has been on the show. However, if anyone would look back at why the ratings went down, they would see it was because of Star Jones-Reynolds becoming more and more of a dominant figure. There were weeks of stories surrounding her wedding preparations and her weight loss; viewers started tuning out. I believe that the ratings would have gone up anyway just because she was gone. I suppose high ratings are the goal, but I wonder how the other three women feel at the table when all the news is about how Rosie saved them? I hope that the show runners pick a new co-host who knows how to play well with others.

I think about updating my blog every day, but never seem to get around to it. Periodically, I suffer from a case of internet service overload. There are so many services that are useful if you are only signed up for one of them, but can be paralyzing if you have an account on all of them. I have this blog, two different fitness blogs, the group Runagogo blog, and a mySpace account. I also belong to three listservs and I like to comment on lots of other people's blogs. Someone suggested that I get a LiveJournal, and the top of my head almost flew off! What do I post where? Do I have enough words inside me to spread them out everywhere? Sometimes the thought of it all makes my brain shut down.

King of Macaroni and Cheese
Recently I watched an anime series called Gunslinger Girl and one of the storylines revolved around a children's story called "Prince of Pasta". Yesterday, ABM ascended to the throne as King of Macaroni and Cheese. His recipe is finally perfect.
ABM likes old-fashioned macaroni and cheese so much that he wanted to learn how to make it himself. After collecting recipes from all the old church ladies he knows and not being quite satisfied with the results, he took a tip from a show called Turn Up the Heat with G. Garvin. I think it caught his attention because we don't see too many cooking shows with black male chefs. Anyway, G. Garvin's macaroni and cheese recipe uses five different types of cheeses. ABM doesn't use the same exact cheeses that G. Garvin does, but it is very good. The church ladies around here think they are cuttin' up if they use sharp and medium cheddar together. Last night, ABM used all three cheddar flavors, colby, and bleu cheese to make a huge macaroni and cheese for a potluck at work. It was so delicious! Now that he has mastered this dish, I wonder what he will focus on next.

My new girl crush
As much as I love music, I don't listen to it much on a daily basis. I'm still a fan of old-fashioned radio but the reception in this house has never been good. Being totally out of the loop bugs me, so I check the Billboard charts every so often to find out what's hot. That's how I found Amy Winehouse, and I am so glad I did. A British girl doing pseudo-Motown? I am so there! The heavy black eyeliner and outrageous bouffant only add to her charm for me. Click on any of the choices in the video bar to the left and check her out for yourself.

Random Wrap-Up
Here's what's going on with me:
I'm still looking for a job. I've gotten to the point where it is more difficult. To keep my unemployment insurance coming, I need to put at least two job-search activities on my sheet each week. In the beginning, I had five or six each week because I am not trying to stay on unemployment forever. Unfortunately, I've had no nibbles. Now it is two months' later and I am running out of places to put in applications. I've sent my resume to all the major employers in the area and signed up with a few temp agencies. I'm running out of stuff to put on my sheet.
My return to my SHE box is going well. In the past, this would be the time when I would get overly enthusiastic and start adding all kinds of chores to the box. I am resisting that urge for now. There are other tasks that I need to put in the box that I didn't add in the beginning, but I want to complete some of the big seasonal tasks first. These include tasks that only need to be done once every four months like cleaning out junk drawers. Once these are completed, I should be able to slowly add in more monthly tasks.
I'm doing the second round of Runagogo. I didn't do very well with the first round but hopefully I will at least get to the halfway point of my goal this time. The reward I picked for reaching 100 miles is a game called Qwirkle. Although the experts all say one should pick a reward for reaching a health goal, I don't usually choose one because most things I want are either expensive or related to food. Now that the family is getting into boardgaming, however, there are all sorts of things under $50 that I can use for rewards. Sweet!
As usual, I'm still trying to juggle all my interests. Now that I am not working, I have time to partake in many of my hobbies but I don't have much of an inclination. I can't seem to get off the internet. I've managed to push myself away from the computer to get into my SHE box and handle the household stuff. Once I'm done and ready for some leisure time, however, I turn to the internet. At least when I was watching a lot of TV, my hands were free for me to knit. Nowadays, all I do is click. So in addition to all my other goals, I need to give the internet a smaller chunk of my entertainment schedule.

Prom Queen TV
Prom Queen TV is a mystery movie delivered via 80 mini-episodes. If you own a Verizon phone with V-Cast service, you can watch them that way. I'm watching them online for free and bringing them to you. The website has links to all the characters' mySpace pages. I haven't checked them all out because mySpace hurts my brain. The one I did visit had blog posts and favorite videos, just like a page created by a real teenager. Anyway, I am a fan of online video that is more than just people lip-syncing so I thought I'd share the first couple episodes.

Sunday Scribblings: Deepest, Darkest
Can anyone ever really reveal their deepest, darkest secrets? By my definition, a deep, dark secret is one that you can't share with anyone because you are afraid of how you will be viewed once it get out. If you feel that you can reveal a secret, then it isn't your darkest one, is it? Something else has taken its place as your deepest secret, moving that one up the chain and making it seem not so bad. Also, some people sacrifice a not-so-dark secret in hopes that their friends will stop searching for the truly bad one. Your deepest, darkest secret isn't revealed voluntarily; it must always be extracted by force.
