Watching last night's Grammys: Learning the Blues

I'm not a big fan of this type of gimmicky virtual duet. I am willing to overlook that, however, because I was pleasantly surprised by Alicia Keys. So many times, modern singers sound out of place when singing old standards or Broadway show tunes. However, Alicia Keys sounded as though she grew up on this kind of music. She even dressed the part, which was nice.

Alicia does sound like she grew up with this music. I'm thinking that since she in indeed, a trained musican, she has at least been exposed to it.
Unlike a certain Ms. Aguilera who, though she does have pipes, can't swing to save her life.
When I heard her with Tony Bennett it was most jarring because she was so...on top of the beat...which you don't do with jazz. "It don't mean a thing if it ain't got that swing." actually means something.
