How do you respond to comments?

Over at Moth Heaven, Julia posted about responding to comments left on her blog. This brought me to a question. Is it better to respond directly on the blog or to e-mail the comment writer? I tend to respond in the comment section just as if I were a visitor to the blog. The thing is that I am not sure that people actually return to the comment section of an old entry to see if there was a response (I do). Once I turned my response to a comment into a regular blog entry, which I think makes it easier for other who might be interested in the answer to find it. Sending a private message to the comment writer is my least favorite option for that reason. What is preferable to you?

Hi Dani! I looked around your blog, and didn't find a link to email you. I have four kids too. Marshmallows are one of my basic food groups, haha! They are hard for me to resist! I had managed to stop buying them in the regular store, but then came across handmade ones in the Whole Foods store. They are harder to resist! I see you have some of that Symphony yarn. How nice that your husband bought that for you! When my husband has to travel for work, I always tease him that he should leave room in the suitcase so he can bring me home souvenir yarn, but of course, he never does. I saw that yarn and thought it looked real nice, although my only thought toward it so far is that it might make a nice fuzzy teddy bear!I noticed the great yardage too, since I would only need one skein for the bear. I'm sure your sweater will turn out really nice in that yarn. As for comments, I usually check back to see if there are any responses, but there are some who email me directly, which I think is nice. Always fun to have mail in the inbox! Have a great day, Dani!

Sorry about that, Jenny! Anyone who clicks on the link for my complete profile will now see a link to my e-mail. I'm slowly getting my blog set up with all the little niceties that others have on their blogs, so please bear with me!

I think ABM buys me yarn because I am usually so difficult to shop for. With yarn, all he has to remember is to check the dye lots and buy more than two skeins. I just sent him a KnitPicks wishlist to make it even easier on him :-).

A lot of people pay for Haloscan, so you know when you have comments. So I generally just hop back in and respond as soon as I get comments. And before that, I used to go through all the posts on the current page to see if there were any new comments.

Hey Dani ... boy it's good to know that other people like WifeSwap, too! (ha) Hey -- I'm working on solving my own clutter disorder, and here's a tip that I work on (doesn't mean I always do it) ... try to throw away 15 items every day. Next, try to put 15 items in your donations pile. You might want to check out flylady.com as she is really interesting ... a little overwhelming to me, but still, she's interesting. Take care! Jenifer, I have tried Flylady on and off for years. Before that, I did the S.H.E system on which Flylady is based. I found that those systems worked better for me during my stay-at-home mom periods. Very little motivates me to be a good housewife when I have to work outside the home.
